Fall 2006...

I wanted to write this like 3 weeks ago... hahaha... Anyway, started my fall quater on September 25th. The day after my birthday. Hahaha. So Wednesday that week, my host family brought me out for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We had chinese food at a Chinese restaurant near my place. The food is damn good! But sure cant beat Malaysia's chinese food lah. And after dinner, we went home and they got a cake for me! Chocolate decken cake or something.. the whole cake is pratically made out of chocolate! So delicious! Anyway, they lit up the candles and sang me a birthday song.. and gave me a card! Seriously, my host family damn nice!

So here is how my schedule for fall quarter. On Monday 10 am-12pm, I have Math 1A class. Its a calculus class. So it is like going through form 4 all over again but this time I learned it in more detail. Like how the idea of derivative came up. What is limit? What is a continuous function? Why certain points of a certain graph cant be derive? More on theory than pratical! In high school we just learn how to dy/dx, now its like learn what is derivative, why is it like that and alot whole more of theory stuff.... So on Monday I only have math class.

On tuesday, I have English 1B at 8 am. So I have to wake up 6.40 am in the morning to get rdy. And now that it is fall, it is so cold to wake up in the morning. Anyway, for English class, I took back my last English class teacher, the one that gave me C on every essays (read my first post). Crazy right? Well, I guess I take him again cuz he doesnt require to write an in-class essay, and I am quite farmiliar with his style, and best of all, I can rewrite my essays as many times to get a better grade! So yeah I took him, and the his standard of essays has been raised, well, since it is a higher level english class, I guess that makes sense. Anyway, English 1A required to write a 4-5 page eesays. Now, in English 1B, we have to write 7-9 pages of essay! So damn crazy.
So, our first essay assignment is read a play called Waiting for Godot and others essays that was written by other writers about this play. Then we have to write a 7-9 pages of essays about the significant of Waiting for Godot. Holy shit~~ Anyway, this is a part of my essay, the first page:

Waiting for Godot was written by Samuel Beckett, initially in French, in1948, after the Second World War. The play was then published in French in 1952 and first staged in Paris in 1953. The play was later translated into English and staged in London in 1955 and the United State in 1956. Since then, the play has been produced world wide and is one of the most famous play in the 19th century world of theater. It is one of the most written-about play of all time. What makes Waiting for Godot such a significant work is that the techniques that Beckett uses to produced the play are new modes in theatrics.

The innovation of Samuel Beckett has brought a revelation to the world of theater. His new modes in theatrics has made Waiting for Godot one of the most famous, written, and talked about play in the 20th century. With the removal of a conventional plot in this play, as according to William Hutchings in his essay Waiting for Godot and the Principle of Uncertainty, "Waiting for Godot deliberately confounds the conventional expectation of its audience" (26), it erases any presumption of its audience for a typical plot of a play: a beginning, a conflict, a resolution followed by a happy ending. Indeed, Waiting for Godot lacks all that, a conventional plot expected from all plays. As a matter of fact, the plays plotlessness and vague theme leave questions on its audience of what is going to happen next, what Beckett’s message is, and what is the meaning of the play (26). Waiting for Godot is written and staged in such a way that instead of conveying the messages to the audience with the play, the audience has to search their way to find the messages, which are naked to the eyes, in the play. However, the absents of a conventional plot creates an endless uncertainty in the play – who is Godot and will he come? And if he does come, how will he affect Vladimir and Estragon – that opens the play to a ‘seemingly endless variety of interpretation’ (27) which makes this play so significant. In addition, Lois Gordon, in his essay The Existential Dimension, wrote that, "with the repeated absence of denouement in the enacted scenarios . . . . Beckett creates a never ending series of incomplete plays within the larger drama" (62). Waiting for Godot, in both of its two acts, ends without a conclusion or resolution, the appearance of Godot, which makes the whole story to repeat itself; Vladimir and Estragon are waiting for Godot. As a result, the audience ponders and wonders what happens after that, – will Godot ever come? What happens the day after? – an interpretation by themselves of what happens after the play and the answers to the questions left hanging by the play. Those are what make the play so meaningful and special.

Good thing is that, I got back my paper today, and I got a B for that paper!! Hahaha. So happy cuz all my previous have always fetch a C for me the first time I turn it in!

So English class is from 8 to 10 am.. And then I have chemistry from 10am till 2.30pm. From 10am till 11.30am is lecture and then I have lab from 12 till 2.30pm. Yea, it is a long day! So this chem class is Chem 1B, another level higher than the chem class I took in spring quarter. Chem 1B is so mcuh harder than chem 1A. At least in chem 1A, a little bit I have learn bfr. But in Chem 1B, I have never learn the stuffs bfr. Like the first 2 chapters that we have study for the past few weeks is Molecular Geometry and Bonding Theories, and Chemical Kinetics. Really hard concepts! Good thing is some of the people I took chem1A with is also in this class. So at least I have friends to work togather on problems and assignments!

So wednesday is same with monday and thursday is same with tuesday. Even though it is a long day on tueday and thurday, I really like it cuz the classes are fun. My math teacher is kinda sucks. Compared to my last math teacher, he is nothing. He does not teaches that good. And the class is so boring. On friday, I have english and math class, 1 hour each.

So yea, that is practically whats going on with me this fall.
